Today on the professional, we join Dennis Oshea as he interviews Jorge Dos Santos CEO of Transmine, a renowned engineering company. According to Jorge Dos Santos, Mechanical Engineering is the discipline that applies the principles of engineering, physics, and materials science for the design, analysis, manufacturing, and maintenance of mechanical systems. Jorge says:
“you do not need a mechanical engineer to run and engineer business”.
Jorge Dos Santos explains to us what it takes to build a successful engineering business, especially in a continent such as Africa. He explains: “what I really believe in is contacts; once you give good service to one mine, that mine grants your details to other mines and that is what we do and what we want,” he says that his work speaks for him. In Afr, ca the engineering sector needs to grow to the level where the work that is done is world class.
When he started his company, it was not an engineering company, but was focused on selling lifting equipment that he got from Spain. From there they grew to becoming a large engineering company. In starting his company, he envisioned that the company was going to be big by ensuring that he did excellent work always. He made sure to involve his brother in the company, and he says that without his brother, the company would not be what it is today.
We later join Joao dos Santos, son of Jorge Dos Santos who is a mechanical engineer and heir to the family engineering company. He tells us about how they run the business effectively. He explains that it is important to be precise in the running of machines, and to make sure that they are always accurate with their measurement and calculation, without this precision the whole process could go wrong.
Enjoy the show, there is a whole lot to learn from it.
